The Chiang Mai night market you want depends on the day. On Sunday, go to the Sunday Walking Street on Ratchadamnoen Road. On Saturday, go to Wua Lai Road. Any other night, try the Night Bazaar on Chang Khlan Road (about 5pm to 11pm) or the food stalls at Chiang Mai Gate and Chang Phueak Gate.

We checked the days and hours below in October 2026 against the sources linked in each section. Stalls open and close on their own clock, though. Read every time as "about", and expect an early finish if it pours.

Which Chiang Mai night market is open tonight?

Every night of the week has at least one. The two walking streets are weekend-only and the biggest; the rest run nightly.

What is the Sunday Walking Street in Chiang Mai like?

The Sunday Walking Street is the biggest Chiang Mai night market, and it's the one to pick if you only have one evening. Every Sunday from about 4pm to 10pm, Ratchadamnoen Road closes to cars and fills with stalls from Tha Phae Gate west toward Wat Phra Singh. Time Out gives those hours, and so does a Todo.Today listing for August 2026.

Expect handicrafts, hill tribe textiles and small things to take home, with a busker every few metres. For food, look for coconut pancakes and grilled squid. Start at the Tha Phae Gate end. Once it's dark, the crowd moves at one slow speed in one direction, and turning back for something you passed is hard work. So if you like it, buy it then.

Time Out's advice is to arrive between 4pm and 5pm, before the crowds build. We'd put it this way: come early to shop and later to eat. Entry is free.

Is the Saturday Walking Street on Wua Lai Road worth it?

Yes, especially if Sunday's crowd sounds like too much. The Saturday Walking Street runs every Saturday from about 4pm to 10pm on Wua Lai Road, just south of the moat near Chiang Mai Gate, according to Time Out.

Wua Lai Road was the silversmiths' street, and it still shows. Stalls sell silver jewellery, handmade soap and indigo-dyed clothes next to the usual souvenirs. The shophouses behind them sell more silver, old records and ceramics. The Saturday market is smaller than Sunday's, so you can stop and look without being carried along. Get a few grilled pork sticks while you walk. Wat Sri Suphan, the silver temple, is just off the road.

The Saturday Walking Street ends near Chiang Mai Gate, and that works out well. Walk the market first, then sit down for dinner at the Chiang Mai Gate food stalls a few minutes away. Two markets, one short walk, and you're done by ten.

Which Chiang Mai night market is open every night?

The Chiang Mai Night Bazaar on Chang Khlan Road is open every night from about 5pm to 11pm, and it's busiest at weekends (Time Out). It covers several blocks between the Old City and the Ping River.

The Night Bazaar is a shopping street first. Clothes, elephant trousers, electronics, art, toys and copies of brand bags and trainers. Time Out says most sellers price high and expect you to bargain, so bargain, politely and with a smile. When you get hungry, walk into the Anusarn or Kalare food courts for papaya salad and grilled meat. Some nights there's live music, a cabaret or a Thai boxing bout.

You'll pay a little more for food here than at the gate markets, and most of the crowd is visitors. That's fine. On a Tuesday when the walking streets are closed, the Night Bazaar is the easy plan, and the covered food courts help on a wet night. Kad Na Mor and the gate food stalls also run every night, and they're covered below.

Where do you eat at a Chiang Mai night market?

For dinner, go to the food stalls at the Old City gates. They cook every night and cost less than the Night Bazaar.

Chiang Mai Gate food stalls line Bumrung Buri Road on the south side of the moat from about 5pm to midnight. Carts cook pad thai and pad kra pao to order, and others sell khao soi, roti and mango sticky rice (Two Tickets Anywhere).

Chang Phueak Gate, on Manee Nopparat Road on the north side, is known for one stall: khao kha moo, pork leg braised until soft and served over rice, from the cook in the cowboy hat. It opens at 5pm, and the tables fill fast (Eating Thai Food).

What does it cost? A 2026 price round-up puts most street snacks on the Sunday Walking Street at about 20 baht each, and meals at Chiang Mai Gate at about 30 to 80 baht. If you've never had khao soi, the curry noodle soup of northern Thailand, start there.

What about the night market near Chiang Mai University?

Kad Na Mor, also called Malin Plaza, is on Huay Kaew Road opposite Chiang Mai University. It's open every night from about 5pm to 10pm and liveliest from Thursday to Sunday, according to Time Out.

Kad Na Mor is where students shop, so the prices are student prices. Rows of stalls sell cheap clothes, Korean cosmetics and accessories, and a separate food zone does fried snacks, bubble tea and quick dinners. Time Out's tip is a good one: arrive hungry and join the longest queue.

You'll see far fewer visitors from abroad at Kad Na Mor than on Chang Khlan Road. It's a short Grab ride from Nimman, so if you're staying on that side of town it makes an easy weeknight plan. The same 2026 price round-up puts small bites at about 35 to 50 baht and most dishes at about 50 to 100 baht.

How do you get to a Chiang Mai night market?

Most of them are in or right next to the Old City, so a red songthaew or a Grab gets you there cheaply.

Red songthaews are shared pickups that work like a taxi with benches. Flag one down, tell the driver where you're going, and pay when you get off. Inside the city it's a flat 30 baht a person; for longer trips, agree on the price before you get in. Grab and Bolt both work in Chiang Mai and show the fare up front (TAGTHAi).

On a Sunday, Ratchadamnoen Road is closed to traffic for the market. Ask to be dropped at Tha Phae Gate and walk in from there. For the Saturday Walking Street, get dropped at Chiang Mai Gate. The Night Bazaar is about a 15-minute walk east of Tha Phae Gate along Tha Phae Road, so on a Sunday you can do both. Kad Na Mor is outside the Old City, and that's the one where a Grab makes the most sense.

What should you know before you go?

A few things make a night market evening go better.

  • Bring cash in small notes. Handing over a 1,000-baht note for a 20-baht snack doesn't make anyone's night.
  • Arrive at the walking streets around 4pm to 5pm to shop, or after dark if you mostly want to eat.
  • Bargain for clothes and souvenirs at the Night Bazaar. Food prices are what they say.
  • If it rains hard, a lot of stalls pack up early.
  • Go with someone and share. Alone, you get through four snacks. With two of you, it's ten.

That last one is where we can help. If you'd rather not walk the market by yourself, a Chiang Mai friend can come along. You choose the market and the time. They order in Thai, ask what's in the sauce, and help you split the snacks. Their hourly rate covers their time; food and drinks you pay for on the night. Here's how booking works.

Questions people ask

Which night is the Chiang Mai night market on?

There's one every night. The Sunday Walking Street on Ratchadamnoen Road runs on Sundays, the Saturday Walking Street on Wua Lai Road runs on Saturdays, and the Night Bazaar, the gate food stalls and Kad Na Mor run every night.

What time should I get to the Sunday Walking Street?

Between 4pm and 5pm if you want to shop before the crowd builds. Stalls stay open until about 10pm, and after dark is the busiest stretch.

Is Warorot Market open at night?

Not really. Warorot Market, also called Kad Luang, is a day market open from about 6am to 6pm, so go in the morning or afternoon (Time Out).

Is Jing Jai Market a night market?

No. Jing Jai is a weekend daytime market north of the Old City, and it's at its best in the morning (Time Out). Do Jing Jai on Saturday or Sunday morning and keep the evening for a walking street.

How much cash should I bring to a Chiang Mai night market?

Snacks start at about 20 baht and most dishes cost about 30 to 100 baht, so a few hundred baht a person covers a good evening of eating. Bring more if you plan to shop, and keep it in small notes.
