Questions about renting a friend in Thailand
Answers about renting a friend in Thailand: booking, credits, blurred photos, approval, safety and cancelling.
Booking
What is Rent Thai Friend?
Rent Thai Friend lets you pay for a Thai friend's time and company in Bangkok, Chiang Mai or Phuket. You pick the plan, like dinner, a hike or a concert, and they come along. It's strictly platonic, and every friend is picked by hand. Each friend sets an hourly rate in credits.
How do I book a friend?
Open a friend's profile, tap Book, choose the date, start time, hours and meeting point, and send the request. We confirm with your friend and email you.
How far ahead should I book?
A day or two ahead gives your friend time to confirm. Same-day requests are fine to try.
Can I change the time after I've sent a request?
Not once it's sent. Cancelling a request doesn't refund its credits, so check the date, time and meeting point before you press send.
Can I book the same friend again?
Of course. Open your bookings and tap Book again.
What if my friend doesn't turn up?
Tell us straight away from your booking page or in the chat. If your friend doesn't turn up within 30 minutes of the start time, the booking's credits come back in full.
Money and credits
What currency are prices in?
Credit packs are priced in Thai baht, and friends' rates are in credits.
How do I buy credits?
Go to Wallet, pick a pack and pay by card through Stripe. Credits are added as soon as the payment goes through.
When are my credits used?
A request holds them. They're used when your friend confirms, and returned if they can't make it.
What does the rate cover?
Your friend's time for the hours you book. Food, drinks, tickets and transport for your plan are paid by you on the day.
Do credits expire?
No, credits don't expire while your account is open. They aren't refundable once bought, so top up what you expect to use.
Photos and your account
Why are the photos blurred?
To protect our friends' privacy. Once your account is approved, you'll see everyone's photos properly.
Why do I need to be approved?
We check every new member's details by hand, because our friends are meeting someone they don't know. It usually takes a few hours, and we'll email you as soon as you're in.
Why do you need my name and phone number?
So we know who our friends are meeting, and so we can reach you about a booking. Only our team sees them, never the friends, and we delete them when your account is deleted.
Do I need a Google or LINE account?
Yes, you sign in with one of them. It keeps your account secure and means one less password. Use the same one each time, or connect both in Settings and use either.
How do I delete my account?
Message us in the chat and we'll delete it for you. We remove your personal data, as Thailand's privacy law (PDPA) requires.
Safety
Is this a dating service?
No. Rent Thai Friend is strictly platonic. Romance and adult services aren't allowed, and anyone who asks for them loses their account.
Is it safe to meet a friend from the site?
Every friend is picked by hand, first meet-ups start somewhere public, and if anything makes either of you uncomfortable, you can end the meet-up and message us: our team steps in. Read the full rules on our safety page.
How old do I need to be?
18 or over, for members and friends. We check every friend's ID card or passport before their profile goes live, and friends who join drinks or nights out are 20 or over.
